Luxembourg business can greenify using public sector know-how

The government launched Klimapakt fir Betriber, an advisory and aid scheme for private sector actors who want to decarbonise

Yesterday, the Luxembourgish government announced the launch of a new initiative called "Klimapakt fir Betriber”. The initiative is supposed to help the private sector to transition to more sustainable and green business practices using the experience of the public sector, as well as provide it with a grant scheme.

The initiative has a budget of 95 million euros plus the support of institutions like Luxinnovation, the Ministry of Energy and Regional Planning, the Ministry of the Economy, the General Directorate for Middle Classes and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate and Sustainable Development.

The project is supposed to aid companies in decarbonizing their production lines and accelerating the green energy transition. This approach would offer companies that want to futureproof their business easily accessible support through advice, the co-financing of investments and connecting with key stakeholders.

Expanding the network of sustainability transition actors

The special offer, and focus, of the Klimapakt fir Betriber is helping companies and connecting them to databases and solutions for decarbonisation and the green transition. This can come through public authorities’ experience in the topic or even the academic sector, depending on the specific needs.

Additionally, participating companies will have access to the Klima-Agence and Luxinnovation tools. Klima-Agence is a national partner of the Grand Duchy in terms of crafting sustainable solutions for households, municipalities and institutions. They were the organization which created the national solar cadastre, expert planners for photovoltaic projects and the charging station planning guide.

Luxinnovation, on the other hand, has produced a map of Luxembourg’s sustainability transition actors. This database tries to identify and compile all private and public interested parties in the country, which offer solutions or services to facilitate the transition to a more sustainable economic fabric.

The map is a constantly evolving tool, categorizing these actors while assessing all solutions and available services. It can also help to identify gaps in the supply of services on a national scale.
