Poznan is getting ready to install new floating garden islands in the city centre. Equipped with nesting baskets, these installations help to introduce greenery to central urban areas, increase biodiversity and purify water and air. The next such activity is set to take place this Saturday and volunteers are needed, local authorities inform.

Creating biodiversity enclaves in the city centre

The installation of floating gardens in the area of Podolany in Poznan is planned for this weekend. OnWater.pl Foundation in cooperation with the City of Poznan are responsible for the job, but they still need over twenty volunteers to help them.

Floating Gardens are lightweight structures placed in water islands and they serve important biodiversity functions. This is performed by creating or improving the conditions for the formation of unique ecosystems and by bringing greenery to the city centre.

Planted with mainly native species, these gardens move with the tide and develop further with new seeds brought in by the wind and birds. Moreover, the floating gardens allow birds to gain a peaceful enclave, protecting them from predators, including pets - cats or free-running dogs. Such installations already exist in several places in the Polish city.

Those who want to take part in the installation this weekend, can visit onwater.pl and learn how to do this.
