Netherlands will have the world`s biggest wind farm by 2027

It would be capable of producing gigawatts of power, more than double the amount of offshore wind power installed in Europe now

The highly ambitious renewable-energy plan includes 2.3 square-mile artificial island for the largest wind farm at global level. The location will be Dogger Bank, a windy place near by the East Yorkshire coast. The plan is to deliver power to the Netherlands, United Kingdom, and in future to Germany, Belgium and Denmark.

Offshore wind farms are using expensive underwater cables that convert the turbines' electric current into a type that electricity grids can use. The Dutch one would perform this conversion on-site, allowing to send electricity directly to the country and UK through less pricey cables. The additional equipment on the island would also allow to operate more turbines at a lower cost.
