I Musei Capitolini rappresentano un museo unico che ospita un gruppo di musei d'arte e archeologia in Piazza del Campidoglio, in cima al colle Capitolino a Roma. Le sedi storiche dei musei sono il Palazzo dei Conservatori e il Palazzo Nuovo, in un progetto ideato da Michelangelo nel 1536 e eseguito per un periodo di oltre 400 anni.
I Musei Capitolini risalgono al 1471, quando Papa Sisto IV donò al Popolo di Roma un gruppo di statue in bronzo che fino ad allora erano state in Laterano. Successivi papi hanno ampliato la collezione originaria con opere rinvenute durante gli scavi a Roma e nei dintorni. Alcuni furono trasferiti dal Vaticano, altri, come la Collezione Albani, furono acquistati appositamente per questo museo.
Aperto al pubblico nel 1734 sotto il Climent XII, i Musei Capitolini sono considerati il primo museo al mondo, famoso come luogo in cui l'arte potrebbe essere goduta da tutti e non solo dai proprietari. Le collezioni dei musei sono esposte in due dei tre edifici che racchiudono Piazza del Campidoglio - Palazzo dei Conservatori e Palazzo Nuovo.
