Ostrava will have trams unique for Central Europe

Designed in turquoise, they will fit into the visual identity of the city

Ostrava is getting ready to welcome its brand new tramways with modern design next autumn, announced from the local authority. The Ostrava Public Transport Company (DPO) unveiled the design of its new Škoda ForCity Smart trams, which will be deployed in the Czech city. Ostrava will be the first in Czechia and Central Europe to have Škoda ForCity Smart trams in operation.

The trams will also be designed in turquoise, which has been gradually applied to the entire DPO fleet and will thus be in harmony with the city's visual identity. The dynamically shaped front of the tram will provide both comfort and convenience for the driver as well as greater operational safety. The trams will have the three exclamation marks above the door – just like the logo of Ostrava.

The new vehicles will meet the latest Ostrava standards for comfort and safety. They will be fully air-conditioned, equipped with Wi-Fi, USB ports for charging mobile devices and external and internal camera systems. These functionalities ensure that the new trams will offer maximum comfort, safety and state-of-the-art technology to passengers using public transport.

The Ostrava Public Transport Company has signed a contract for the purchase of 40 pieces of Škoda ForCity Smart trams of the latest generation worth CZK 1.9 billion. They should be in full operation after the approval of all procedures in autumn 2020. The capacity of the new trams is 200 passengers.
