Prague Castle is an ancient symbol of the Czech State, the most significant Czech monument and one of the most important cultural institutions in the Czech Republic. It is a monumental complex of palace, church, fortification, official and residential buildings, which represent precious monuments of all the architectural styles.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world. The castle occupies an area of roughly 70 000 m2, and measures 570 meters in length and an average of about 130 meters in width. The castle was built in the 9th century and then underwent extensive renovations in the time of the First Republic (1918-1938). The castle has always been the seat of Czech monarchs as well as the official residence of the head of state.
