The City of Stockholm is inviting people to attend the unveiling of the official Avicii memorial site on 1 September, at 6:00 pm. The monument to the late electronic music artist, who committed suicide in 2018, will be located in Humlegården, the way it was decided a year ago.
More specifically, the memorial will consist of an interesting sculpture. In memory of Tim Bergling (Avicii’s formal name), the artists Adèle Essle Zeiss and Liva Isakson Lundin have created an artwork called "Standing Waves". The work is inspired by Tim Bergling's person and music and consists of three unique, sculptural shapes in stainless steel. When the wind blows, the sculpture group comes to life.
"Like the wind, music can be experienced immaterially and spread through waves in the air. The artwork is set in motion by the force of the wind to remind us how the energy in Tim Bergling's music made people meet, feel and dance. The wind also becomes a symbol of the uncontrollable forces that every individual encounters in life. The shifting movements of the sculpture make visible how complex a person is," commented the two artists, as quoted by the municipal website of Stockholm.
The inauguration of the memorial site and the artwork "Standing Waves" takes place on Thursday, 1 September, at 6 pm in the middle of Humlegården. There will be speeches and music and singing with interpretations of Tim Bergling's songs. The public is welcome to attend.
Humlegården is a park in central Östermalm (the district where Avicii grew up and considered his home) that is well visited and appreciated by many, and the location is both easily accessible and visible. At the same time, it is slightly secluded, which provides good conditions for the place to feel peaceful and harmonious.
