The project is part of Copenhagen's plant to become the world's first zero-carbon capital city by 2025
The Amager Bakke combined heat and power (CHP) complex is one of the largest waste-to-energy plants in northern Europe. Besides this, the plant in Copenhagen is not only the cleanest and one of the most technologically advanced in the world, but it is also unique for its vibrant recreational facilities. Amager Bakke combines hiking trails, playgrounds, vantage points, climbing walls, street fitness - along with the world’s longest artificial ski slope at 600 meters.
Its total net energy efficiency of 107% is among the highest in the world for a waste-to-energy facility, and it holds a big potential for recycling and recovery. The innovative waste-to-energy plant can burn 35 tons of waste per hour while cutting emissions by 99.5%, which makes it capable of converting 400 000 tons of waste every year. All the while also providing heat to 150 000 households and low-carbon electricity for 550 000 people. The project is part of Copenhagen's plan to become the world's first zero-carbon capital city by 2025.
