The Municipal Library of Santa Cruz de Tenerife now allows reservations

Readers can book online a time slot for the reading rooms

The web portal of Santa Cruz de Tenerife reminded all the library users that since 1 July it has been possible to book online a seat in the reading area of the Central Municipal Library. This is aimed to be in line with the current measures for social distancing.

The Tenerife library is one of the first to allow online reservations in Spain

The possibility to reserve your own reading seat, and thus avoid confusion, overcrowding, frustration and possible transmission of coronavirus, has been lauded as an innovative solution.

Readers, willing to use the main reading hall should keep in mind that there will be 129 available seats, which is less than the full capacity. Likewise, visitors will be expected to use masks and clean their hands with sanitizer gel upon entering the building.

Before reserving a seat, there are also a few other things to consider first:

  • You should be older than 14 years of age and be a registered user at the Library Network of the Canary Islands (BICA),
  • You do not have outstanding books on loan past their due date,
  • You have not been fined for late returns,
  • You cannot wear gloves brought in from outside,
  • You must bring identification.

Furthermore, readers should be aware that they can only make up to 4 reservations. Each reservation comprises a 4-hour slot – either in the mornings between 9:00 and 13:00, or in the afternoons between 15:00 and 19:00. Disinfection of the general reading area will be carried out in the pause between 13:00 and 15:00, so it is best to not leave belongings there.
