After several years of dialogue in the context of an urban development, the City Council of Paris and the real estate company L'Ensemble Immobilier Tour Maine-Montparnasse (EITMM) have decided to launch a joint initiative to transform the district in terms of public spaces, commerce , equipment, and to insert new uses. As a result of this partnership, Montparnasse District will soon have a new face. The work for the reconstruction of the famous business building Montparnasse Tower is due to begin in 2019, with project delivery scheduled for 2023.
The project advocates a greener Montparnasse Tower, more luminous and more open to Parisians and in line with the city of the 21st century and the Olympics 2024. Other considerable change, 18 additional meters with hanging gardens and over 850 sqm of photovoltaic panels for a positive energy use. To remain ecofriendly and aiming at reforming, 80% of the existing facade will be re-used inside the tower. Last but not least, 70% of the ventilation will be natural thanks to Parisian winds, making the Paris’ Montparnasse Tower becoming the world's first "wind tower".
