San Sebastian will welcome the prestigious tourism forum in 2019

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Basque Culinary Centre (BCC) have signed an Agreement for the organization of the 5th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism. Accordingly, this year’s edition of the global forum, supported by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of Spain, the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the City of San Sebastián, is going to take place in San Sebastian on 2-3 May 2019.

The topic of the upcoming edition will be focused on generating employment and the promotion of entrepreneurship, in line with the 2019 UNWTO Year of Education, Skills and Jobs, in the wider context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event will welcome representatives of local and national governments, chefs, entrepreneurs, academia and related stakeholders from the hospitality sector with the objective of discussing and exchanging on the latest trends. Another key point of the agenda is the announcement of the winner of the First Gastronomy Tourism Start-up Competition among five finalists, organized by UNWTO and the BCC.

Alongside the presentations, discussions and working sessions, a concluding Masterclass by the Basque Culinary Centre will take place, on how to develop competitive and sustainable gastronomy tourism destinations. Since the first edition of the forum, the Basque Culinary Centre hosts it every two years with the aim to promote the exchange of most relevant experiences between experts in tourism and gastronomy.
