The world’s first fully electric and unmanned container will sail on European waterways

The innovative vessels will operate from the ports of Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam this summer

The so called ‘Tesla of the canals’, will operate on Dutch and Belgian waterways, vastly reducing diesel vehicles and emissions. The vessels are designed to fit beneath bridges as they transport their goods around the inland waterways of Belgium and the Netherlands. In this way they will reduce significantly the use of diesel-powered trucks for moving freight.

The electric motors of the barges will be driven by 20-foot batteries, charged on shore by the carbon-free energy. The vessels are designed to operate without any crew, although they will be manned in their first period of operation as new infrastructure is erected around some of the busiest European inland waterways.
