Tomorrow starts Dusseldorf’s biggest funfair

Dusseldorf Funfair has a long history, starting 690 years ago

The biggest funfair on the Rhine is celebrated on the occasion of the Memorial Day (23th of July) of Saint Apollinaris. It first took place 690 years ago when the local shooting club, St. Sebastianus, starting celebrating its patron saint’s day. The event starts with one of Germany’s biggest parades. Over 3000 marchers make their way through the streets of Düsseldorf.

Today the fair is one of the biggest outdoor celebrations in Germany with around four million visitors. The fireworks display on the first and last Friday of the Dusseldorf fun fair are a highlight of the event. Another fun fair high point is the selection of the “Schützenkönig” - the “King of Marksmen”.
