It will feature an obelisk in the center and tram traffic will be moved
Prague's Vítězné náměstí will have a new look which will feature an obelisk in its center. In order to achieve this, tram traffic will be moved from the center towards the edges of the square. Its lrage circular area will be coverd with trees and fountains - both drinking and decorative. The area construction will also emphasize on making it more pedestrian-friendly.
It is interesting to note that the original design of the area, dating back to 1920 and developed by Antonín Engel, also included an obelisk. However, this was never constructed. The proposal for the transformation can be implemented in five years should City Council approve it. Competitions for the design of the obelisk will soon be open.
