It will be the 4th largest library in the Austrian capital
The year 2021 brings Vienna a new modern library. Construction work on the Seestadt library in Aspern in the Donaustadt is in full swing, and the opening is scheduled for this autumn. The new library will be located in the “Quartier am Seebogen” in the immediate vicinity of the Seestadt U2 station and the new education campus.
With its 550m² it will be the fourth largest library location in Vienna. It will be barrier-free and designed according to the latest standards for a library - as a meeting place and an extended living room. This includes spacious rooms that invite you to linger and relax, extensive equipment with WiFi, study and computer workstations.
The heart of the new Seestadt library is the spacious, open lending room with around 22,000 media, where books and magazines can be browsed, DVDs, console games and much more can be selected. Special attention is paid to the library as a room: This includes attractive seating that invites you to linger and browse, as well as a separate children's library.
In a small café area there will be the possibility to get coffee, tea or water. For when the weather outside’s nice, the new library boasts a "reading garden" that in the open air.
The new library invites you to experiment, try out and participate. In addition, as has already been tested with the libraries, the Seestadt will receive a "Library of Things".
Items for everyday use (e.g. tools, instruments, etc.) can be borrowed here. A so-called "Maker Space" will be new, where space is available for implementing your own creative ideas.
The libraries attach particular importance to their work for children and young people as well as cooperation with schools and kindergartens. They offer a comprehensive range of reading promotion and media studies, but also entertainment with picture book cinema or reading hours.
Part of the new Seestadt library will be a comprehensive range of events, including readings, lectures and public discussions but it should also be able to offer space for self-organized activities for the residents of the Austrian capital.
