The Municipality offers free admission to tourist sites and hosts festivities marking World Snow Day
The winter edition of the initiative of the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism "The Day for You" will be launched on January 18 from the Municipality of Smolyan. On this day, all guests and residents of Smolyan will be granted a free entry to iconic tourist attractions such as the Planetarium, the Stoyu Shishkov Regional History Museum and the Art Gallery. Tomorrow, the municipality will also celebrate World Snow Day with festivities in Pamporovo ski resort and elsewhere.
Thus, the Ministry of Tourism starts the second phase of the project, thematically targeted to mountain municipalities with winter sports base. Considering the success of the “Day for You” in seaside resorts in the period June-September 2019, many mountain communities agreed to participate in the winter edition, incl. Bansko, Batak, Belovo, Belogradchik, Bratsigovo, Velingrad, Vratsa, Elena, Koprivshtitsa, Kyustendil, Lovech, Sliven, Troyan and Chepelare. The project is also open to other settlements.
The idea of the Ministry is that within one day of the active season, each participating municipality will announce free entrance to museums and tourist attractions in its territory in order to enrich its tourist product.
On January 18, the Planetarium in Smolyan will present two separate programs titled “Journey to the Sun” and “Journey into Space”, each lasting about 40 minutes. In three exciting shows - from 11:00, 15:00 and 16:30, visitors will be introduced to planets in the Solar System, constellations and astronomical phenomena in our galaxy.
The Stoyu Shishkov Regional Museum of History in Smolyan will open for free its permanent exhibition "The cultural and historical richness of the Rhodope Mountains from antiquity to the present day" and the natural sciences exhibition "Wild inhabitants of the Rhodope Mountains".
Smolyan art gallery which boasts a collection of more than 2200 works by Bulgarian and foreign artists will welcome guests also free of charge from 9am to 5pm.
The Ministry of Tourism invites visitors to send photos and videos of the "Day for You" to the municipalities that have joined the initiative, with a short descriptive text of the place they have visited. At the end of the initiative, the best footage will be published on the Ministry of Tourism's website with the authors' names attached.
The ninth edition of World Snow Day will see 363 events and actions take place in 45 countries on the 19th January 2020.
The FIS initiative involving children and families will feature a wide array of activities in various locations - from alpine environments to major cities. Among the European highlights are free skiing lessons for children in Poland, an open day in Norway with 50 NOK (5 euro) lift passes for all kids and adults, World Snow Day in schools around Lithuania, ski and snowboard lessons throughout the Engadin valley in Switzerland, a kid’s snow festival in Tallin and many more.
Bulgarian winter resorts which are seeing some snow in contrast to the cities below, will mark the World Snow Day on 18th January with a lot of fun events. The top discount offer is for a Sofia-Vitosha Mountain gondola lift pass for children up to 14 years of age, priced at BGN 1 (EUR 0,51).
