Access City Award is once again looking to distinguish forward-looking cities
The 15th edition of the competition will grant 350,000 euros to three European cities that have removed barriers to accessibility on their territories
This was affirmed by a regional government representative in Albacete
On 13 April, the Albacete Provincial Delegate for Agriculture Ramón Sáez paid a visit to the headquarters of AgriSat Iberia in the same city. This was meant as a show of support and encouragement for the pioneering company, which specializes in the introduction of digital solutions for the agricultural sector.
The official also recalled the Order of the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha, which broadened the scope of financial aid to include a larger variety of cutting-edge projects in that sector.
Known for Don Quixote and endless plains, Castilla-La Mancha has traditionally been a region highly reliant on the production of cereals, grapes and olives for its economic well-being. It is thus, together with Andalusia, seen as the breadbasket of the Iberian country.
Mr Sáez explained the usefulness of the new order on aid in the agri-food sector since it aims to stimulate innovative cooperation among different stakeholders for the implementation of bold projects. AgriSat Iberia is currently studying which of their projects can apply for the line of regional grants, which previously were only offered for initiatives on bettering animal and plant health.
“This type of initiative, so important for the development and future of the territory, which is clearly committed to R + D + i, has the full support of the regional government,” added the Provincial Delegate.
As for the company itself, it was described as having become a reference on a national scale in terms of satellite remote sensing technology. This type of applications, developed in partnership with the University of Castilla-La Mancha, allow farmers to get detailed and constantly updated information in the form of maps on different aspects, showing for example how well the plants are growing in different parts of the field, or how well-irrigated it is.
