Italy awaits you once again

Italy awaits you once again

One of the most visited countries in the world has reopened for tourism

Since 3 June it has been possible to go to Italy without being subjected to a mandatory quarantine period of 14 days. The good news presents a real possibility for a recovery in the field of tourism which was severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The change came at the start of June when Italy reopened its borders to the countries of the European Union. It is also possible for Italians to go abroad.

Italy is allowing arrivals with no quarantine requirements from the following countries:

  • The 26 other members of the European Union;
  • Schengen Area members Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland;
  • The United Kingdom;
  • Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican City.

Italy has also lifted restrictions on movement between regions. International flights, however, are expected to resume in just three major cities: Milan, Rome and Naples.

The big wait is over and Europeans can finally again enjoy the beauties of Italy, even despite some new restrictions. A real reopening of tourism is also currently in the works.

Although safety regulations such as social distancing and the use of protective masks are still in force for everybody, most tourist sites are open to visitors.

What you can and can't do yet in Italy

As of right now, it is possible to walk around the Italian cities, as long as you do it while respecting the rules on social distancing. You can walk if you avoid crowds of people, keep a distance of at least 1 metre from others and wear a mask.

It is also allowed to visit numerous museums (but not all of them). Museums and parks in the country have been open since 18 May. Many of them also presented the public with special offers and discounted prices for visitors.

What is more, it is once again possible for everyone to enjoy the delicious Italian cuisine. Attendance of restaurants, although with some restrictions on the maximum number of people who can enter and stay at each table, has also been reallowed.

Overnight stays have also been reallowed in Italy since 18 May when many hotels were allowed to resume operations.

The good news is that every travel lover can enjoy a wonderful trip to Italy. Yet, there are still ambiguities about some activities, such as going to the beach. It is as of yet also unclear when it will once again become possible to take part in events with a large number of people such as concerts and fairs.

It is important to note that trains and ferries are still operating on a reduced schedule. Many airlines also have yet to resume flights to the country.
